Liburd responds on a record of inclusion

Hon. Cedric Liburd
Labour Secretariat

Basseterre, December 8, 2009 (Labour Secretariat) - Hon. Cedric Liburd on Monday responded in a release to claims made by PAM Candidate Eugene Hamilton as empty rhetoric, lies and baseless allegations.

The three term Labour incumbent of St. Christopher 8 responded to allegations of discrimination and victimization raised by Mr. Hamilton in a PAM Secretariat Release earlier today.  Liburd rebuffed this by pointing out that he has represented all constituents reputably.

“PAM and Labour supporters have comfortably sought my assistance over the past 14 years, and are pleased with my response to their requests. The people have never spoken of any discrimination on my part and they have in times past and present called me the ‘Man of the People’”, Liburd said.

Liburd encouraged his opposite to propose to build on accomplishments in the areas of education, sporting facilities, community development, healthcare, infrastructure, and overall increases in the standards of living for the people of the constituency, and not just “hit out at me and my record, falsely.”

Liburd emphasized that while raising issues in a campaign is good for democracy, truth and justice are missing from the attacks of the PAM candidate as “the record of Cedric Liburd in politics has never been about discrimination and victimization.”

He stressed that his candidacy is based on the love of the people and the future. Liburd went on to articulate his vision of continued empowerment of the people of the constituency in the areas of entrepreneurship, skills development and overall personal productivity.

Liburd also sought clarity from the relevant authorities through an investigation into the unfounded claims of Mr. Hamilton and PAM. “My hands are clean; they have always been and will always be that way,” he asserted.

Areas of Mr. Hamilton’s indignities were highlighted to support Liburd’s claim that Monday’s attacks were used as “a means to whip up sympathies for his failed campaign”.

Liburd ended by encouraging his fellow constituents to vote for his cause of Safer Hands and a Clearer Vision and against empty rhetoric.
