Tree Planting At Brimstone Hill

Brimstone Hill Fortress Council Press Release

On Friday 4th December 2009, ten years to the day of UNESCO World Heritage Inscription, the members of Council of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society assembled at Brimstone Hill to commemorate this achievement by planting some trees.

Led by the president, Sir Probyn Inniss, who planted the first, a Royal Palm, just outside the first archway; other Council members as well as the Park Manager and General Manager, planted ten (10) trees altogether, including a number of fruit trees in an area designated as an orchard.

During brief remarks, Sir Probyn Inniss noted, that as a National Park, Brimstone Hill also was a national site and it was fitting that it provided an example to further greening of our country. He hoped that more trees, particularly those which were native to the Caribbean, would be planted along every highway and every community.

The Tree Planting Ceremony was one of several activities to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Inscription of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park on the UNESCO World Heritage List of cultural properties of outstanding universal value.
