BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- AFTER an eight-year hiatus without a major sponsor, the St. Peter’s Football Club has secured the backing of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The financial institution has pledged its support to the club as part of its commitment to nurturing sporting talent and fostering community development throughout the Federation by contributing to various programs.
In a ceremony held on Thursday evening, the Bank presented the club with EC$30,000 to assist all divisions within the club.
Dr. Terrance Drew, Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for the St. Peters area, addressed the gathering, highlighting that the partnership forms part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance communities across the Federation through sports.
He stressed the significance of community involvement, youth empowerment, and sports development, emphasizing, “our communities thrive when we engage with one another , invest in our youth and provide avenues for their growth and development".
“Sports, particularly football, play a pivotal role in achieving these objectives. Sports are more than just games, they are vehicles for personal development, health promotion and national pride,” Dr Drew added.
Shavon Douglas, Chairman of the Development Bank, emphasized the importance of their support, stating that promoting change and youth empowerment through sports aligns with the bank's core mandate.
“This decision is not merely a financial investment, it is a strategic alliance forged with a purpose to uplift communities and inspire the next generation of leaders,” Douglas remarked.
Kassie Madenborough, Secretary of St. Peters FC, highlighted that the club extends beyond the confines of the playing field. It is a well-structured organization supported by a dedicated group of individuals who ensure the smooth functioning of the club.
The sponsorship commitment extends beyond the current season, with the bank pledging to collaborate with the club on community engagement programs aimed at the development of St. Peters.
