BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE hunt launched for juvenile who escaped from police custody came to an end on Wednesday (Dec. 9) when he was captured.

The teenager was first taken into custody on November 28 at about 4:00 in the morning after he was found in New Ponds Site, following the placement of a resident’s report that someone endeavoured to forcibly gain access to her home.

Information reaching this media house indicates that the authorities visited the scene of the crime, and while searching the immediate surroundings they spotted and questioned the juvenile.  He was questioned about his presence in the area and, following a search of his person, he was found to be carrying two knives.

This media house also understands that having been taken into police custody and charged with “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”, the Newtown lad was able to escape from the Basseterre Police Station by jumping through one of the building’s windows.

Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Operations (ACP Operations) Joseph Richardson confirmed to SKNVibes that the youngster was captured at about 9:20 on Wednesday evening. He explained that the boy was spotted on Wellington Road by a group of personnel from the Police and Defence Forces who were patrolling the area.

According to Richardson, the boy was charged with “escaping lawful custody”.

SKNVibes has been reliably informed that the juvenile is scheduled to appear before the District ‘A’ Magistrate Court today (Dec. 11) where he is expected to make an application for bail.

Investigations into all related incidents are ongoing.
