Students benefit from scholarships from Taiwan Embassy

By: Taiwan Embassy, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 8th, 2009: R.O.C. Ambassador Rong Chuan Wu presented scholarships to St. Kitts and Nevis students at Basseterre High School auditorium at an award giving ceremony organized by the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs, Labor, Social Security, Information and Technology on the morning of December 8.

This year’s program is a continuation of a previous program which successfully concluded last year.  To show Taiwan’s continued commitment to human resources development in St. Kitts and Nevis, this new program is to provide yearly funding for scholarships, agricultural vocational training, teachers’ on-the-job training, and students’ participation in international events and contests.

Amb. Wu especially remarked that the purpose of agricultural vocational training is to encourage young students to engage in agriculture after graduation so as to achieve the goal of sustainable agricultural development in the future.  He also encouraged students to apply for scholarships to study and enroll in degree programs conducted in English in Taiwan’s universities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Condor praised the people and government of Taiwan for this gracious and generous gesture even though Taiwan itself suffered grave losses in lives and properties caused by a typhoon earlier this year.  He then urged all scholarship recipients to spend the monies on their educational advancement as intended.
