BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- A young man from Lovers Lane, Cayon, has been hospitalized after suffering injuries in a shooting incident on Wade Street, Cayon.

Police said the incident occurred last night (Apr. 17) between 11:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. and left 34-year-old Devon Norford with multiple gunshot wounds.

When officers arrived at the scene, they observed Norford and spoke with him. Norford reported that he had been approached and fired upon by an armed assailant. He fled in the direction of the Cayon Police Station to seek assistance.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported Norford first to the Mary Charles Hospital in Molineaux and then to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is currently in stable condition.

The shooting occurred just hours after the Federation reported its 10th homicide of the year.

The police force is expected to outline a number of measures to combat the recent violence at a media conference on Friday (April 19).
