BVI GIS Press Release
Friday, December 11 – The Ministry of Communications and Works is moving forward with plans to implement the community bus service on Tortola.

“We have entered the next phase of the implementation process of the public bus system,” Acting Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and Works, Mrs. Myrna Ferdinand told the Department of Information and Public Relations.

“Currently we are making progress for the erection of approximately 75 bus stops signs throughout the island along with bus shelters that will be located in the Road Town area,” she said.

The community bus service which was introduced with the implementation of the Road Traffic Regulations 2009, will be operated in the Territory for the purpose of providing a passenger-paid community transit bus service.

According to Mrs. Ferdinand, the ministry anticipates the implementation of the community bus system in early 2010.

Government decided to introduce this service in response to the needs of travellers who require an affordable, clean and reliable community bus service throughout the Territory.

Government is committed to providing transport systems which will provide reliable, safe, affordable and comfortable services to the people of the Virgin Islands.
