BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE juvenile who was caught on Wednesday (Dec. 9) after his daring escape from the Basseterre Police Station is now a guest at Her Majesty’s Prison.

Gibson Blake, originally from Haynes Smith Village but who resides at West Street, Newtown, appeared on Friday (Dec. 11) at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe to answer to the charge of “escaping lawful custody” and was sentenced to two months with hard labour.

According to the facts of the case, Blake was first taken into custody about 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28 after he was found in New Ponds Site following a report made by a resident of that area that someone was trying to forcibly gain to her apartment.

Information reaching SKNVibes indicated that police officers visited the scene of the crime, and while searching the immediate surroundings they stopped and questioned the Blake. He was questioned about his presence in the area and, following a search of his person, he was found to be carrying two knives in the waist of his pants.

He was taken into custody at the Basseterre Police Station and charged with “carrying abroad an offensive weapon” but managed to escape by jumping through a window of the building.

Sources close to the police informed this media house that prior to Blake being captured, members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Intelligence Unit held a briefing on his likely haunts.

This briefing resulted in his capture at about 9:20 Wednesday evening (Dec. 9) after he was seen on Wellington Road by members of a joint patrol from the Police and Defence Forces.

Meanwhile, on the same day of Blake’s sentencing, SKNVibes met Corporal Carl Greaux of the CID at the Magistrate’s Court and was told that two others were sentenced by Chief Magistrate Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe.

He informed that Darren Webster of Green Tree, Old Road was charged with “simple larceny of one jersey/T-shirt which was stolen from the Athlete’s Foot store on Victoria Road on November 25.

Webster was found guilty and sentenced to serve one month with hard labour at Her Majesty’s Prison.

The other convicted man, Bernel Whyte of Fort Thomas Road, was also sentenced to serve one month with hard labour. He was charged with carrying abroad an offensive weapon (a knife), which was discovered on his person when members of the Anti-Gang Unit stopped and searched him on Thursday, November 26.
