BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Boys on Bikes Troupe, which was started last Carnival with the hope of getting young boys positively engaged in Carnival revelry, will be showcasing their skills once more at the Children’s Carnival Parade on Thursday, December 31.
According to one of the organisers, the primary objective of the initiative is to stimulate boys’ interest in activities that would help to promote sports, skills and discipline instead of allowing them to be idle and to be involved in negative activities. Karen Crossman, one of the organisers, said that this year the troupe would only be displayed on Children’s Carnival and it would be a great activity for young boys to be involved in.
She is appealing to the general public to lend their support, which, in turn, would encourage the participants to be involved in something positive. She said that the boys have also been involved in several activities including fundraisers and hiking, as one of their main goals from last year is to start a boy’s club.
They are hoping that the club would focus on cycling, sports, fitness, discipline, skill-building and proper socialisation that would give the boys a sense that “they are in something good”.
Like last year, the boys will be decked in T-shirts, bandanas and toted whistles and will ride through the streets of Basseterre performing stunts.
