BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TEN contestants for the much anticipated 30th Miss Digicel Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen competition recently arrived in the Federation and will join their Kittitian counterpart in a battle for the coveted title.

The contest will be held tomorrow evening (Dec. 30) from 8:00 at Carnival Village.

Following their arrival, a press conference was held yesterday afternoon at the Sugar Bay Club, where the representatives of Anguilla, Bahamas, St. Lucia, British Virgin Island, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, St. Croix, the US Virgin Island and host country St. Kitts were introduced to the media.

Contestant an Activity Coordinator Akila Nisbett gave a brief overview of some the activities in which the contestants would be engaged. These activities include luncheons, a reception and rehearsals.

Nisbett said the teenagers have a packed schedule and they would be engaged in a meet and greet with the public today on Fort Street.

Also present at the conference was Digicel’s representative Sharez Laws, who said the telecommunications provider is honoured to be involved in the Pageant for the fourth year and that they look forward to many more years, as they continue to demonstrate their commitment to culture and giving back to communities.

Executive Producer and Chairman for the event, Antonio Maynard said he knows it was not easy for the contestants to get here and, despite the economic crisis, the show still maintained its numbers in contestants which speaks volume to its greatness.

“This pageant is all about personal development for these young people, as well as community development, Caribbean development and tourism promotion,” Maynard said.

He also stated “this Pageant is probably the longest standing in the Caribbean as many pageants have risen and fell; but because of chaperons and other committed people we have been able to host this wonderful event”.

The Chairman added that this year would be one of the biggest and best shows with respect to the material that would be unleashed on stage.

He made special mention of the fact that this would be the first time St. Croix and St. Thomas would be represented separately. He also welcomed Barbados back to the Pageant after 10 years and The Bahamas for the second time in 30 years.

Caribbean Soca sensation Claudette Peters, who has been crowned Antigua’s Party Soca Monarch on numerous occasions, is scheduled to perform at the show. The event will also see an after party at Fusion, formerly known as Sugars, with Evolution Sound, Sweet Sister Sensia, 2 Hard Entertainment, DJ Woodest, DJ Flexx, DJ Dads and Selector Popashi.
