    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (MARCH 11TH 2004)
    – St. Kitts and Nevis and the United States of America have enjoyed a beneficial relationship that has always existed between the two nations.
     
    So says St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister as he welcomed the new United States Ambassador accredited to the twin-island Federation, His Excellency Mary Kramer.
     
    “Our people have always shown a great interest in your country, not only to travel to visit, but also to work and help to build your country. We are very pleased that your tour of duty would strengthen that relationship,” said Prime Minister Douglas, who added that St. Kitts and Nevis cherishes the relationship which will be fruitfully beneficial to both nations.
     
    The new US diplomat in response said she was honoured to have been selected by President the Honourable George Bush to serve Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.
     
    “We have had a lovely history of shared values all the way back to Alexander Hamilton, who wrote the Federalist Papers and built them on the respect for the rule of law and the precious liberty that he expected to have here,” said Mrs. Kramer.

    friendship between its peoples who have gone back and forth “to work, to learn, to become scholars and then to share the wealth of that education back in their respective homelands. Those are great things to build on.”
     
    The United States Ambassador, who is based in Barbados, told Prime Minister Douglas the Government of the United States appreciates his Government’s support and friendship in law enforcement activities and other trade issues.                                      
     
    Mrs. Kramer, who succeeded Ambassador Earl Phillips Jr., has been keeping a hectic schedule meeting with government, social and private officials.
     
    She also paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Education, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris and presented her credentials to St. Kitts and Nevis Governor General Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian.
