    Basseterre, St. Kitts, 13th April 2006- The annual recognition of the important role the Tourism Sector plays in the economy of St. Kitts is being scheduled for October, 2006. 

    To continually strengthen the Tourism Industry, a committee comprising of representatives from the private and public sector as well as Non-Governmental Organisations, have begun to put together activities to commemorate the celebration of Tourism Week.  This year, the Week will take place between October 8th-14th, 2006. 

    The committee is in the process of developing various activities that will involve every member of the community.  Once the theme for the week has been identified, a competition to coin the slogan that will accompany the general theme of Tourism Week will be open to the general public.  

    The winner will be recognized and will receive a grand prize.
    It is essential f or the population to be fully aware of the importance of Tourism and the role we each should play in promoting and developing the Industry.  

    Therefore Tourism Week affords all stakeholders the opportunity to understand and identify means to enhance the product Hence, it is important for everyone during this significant era of our economic history.  We have found it imperative for the sustainability of this industry, to re-introduce special programs targeting students this year,  said Christine Walwyn, CEO (Ag.) of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority. 
     
    The St. Kitts Tourism Week is spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Sports & Culture in collaboration with the St. Kitts Tourism Authority.
