Road Town, Tortola -  The Ministry of Communications and Works is currently in negotiations with local company Aqua Design and Seven Seas, a company from the United States, in an effort to restore water to the estimated 50% of residents on Tortola that were adversely affected by Ocean Conversion’s resignation.

On Monday, March 29, 2010 Ocean Conversion BVI Limited handed over the keys to the Baugher’s Bay Water Desalination Plant and resigned as its water producer.

“Although we do not have a time frame right now on when we hope to have this matter resolved, the public should rest assured that this matter is high priority for Government and that all is being done to resolve the matter expeditiously,” Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Julian Fraser, RA stated.

The Water and Sewerage Department is currently putting plans in place to help alleviate the pressure of the water shortage on residents. “Right now they are working on the logistics to have water rationed until the matter is fully resolved. A water rationing schedule will be disseminated in the coming days,” Permanent Secretary, Mr. Julian Willock announced.

The Ministry of Communications and Works is committed to the continued development and maintenance of the public infrastructure.
