Road Town, Tortola - The Solid Waste Department is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving past members of its cutting crew as they work to clear the Territory’s roadsides.

“Drivers are now ignoring safety cones, running down the signage that has been erected and driving past the cutting crews at dangerous speeds” expressed Mr. Anslem Myers, Manager for the Solid Waste Department. He explained “In an effort to reduce the instances of vehicular damage caused by stray stones from the weed-whackers, the cutting crew does not face oncoming traffic.”

The Solid Waste Manager further explained “As a result when motorists speed past the crew in an effort to seemingly avoid any stray stones, the results are potentially detrimental if our workers are not constantly alert of their surroundings”.

Mr. Myers advises that once drivers observe that safety cones and “Cutting Crew at Work” signage have been erected, they should approach the areas with care and loudly honk their horns to alert the Solid Waste personnel.

The Solid Waste Department is the Government agency responsible for the collection and disposal of community solid waste, as well as the promotion of proper waste disposal practices.
