BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ACCORDING to the Webster Dictionary, flirting is defined as “to behave amorously without serious intent, to show superficial or casual interest or liking”.
Sometimes, when a couple is engaged in a conversation it may seem to others as if either of them is flirting, but the fact of the matter is that neither of them is entertaining such thoughts. The conversation may vary from an educational topic to investigation, among others.
It is my view that some people may be confused as to what flirting really is. Therefore, SKNVibes PEP sought the response from a number of persons on “What is flirting?”
A young woman by the name of Ifylicous said flirting is dating a guy and doing everything else except being intimate.
Andrews said flirting is doing forbidden things one knows one is not supposed to do, while Val added that it is talking to someone in a playful and sexy manner.
“Entertaining someone who is trying to talk to you by blushing, smiling or batting your eyelashes; and it doesn’t go any further other than keeping that person interested in you…I’m such a flirt,” Amex said
A young man called Zen said, “In my opinion, it is just having some fun with a lady. Nothing personal, no strings attached…that is flirting.”
Nella saw it quite different as she stated that flirting is when males/females have fun learning about each other’s sexual desires and preferences without it getting “too personal or out of hand”.
Steve was all laughs when he said, “It is simple fun; trying to get stimulated without actually knowing you are.”
Another male in his 30s said flirting is something between two individuals which keeps you alive. He said it is okay to flirt because it does not always have to turn into something.
We all have our own perception of things and what we think something is, but if flirting is not your intention you should always be careful of the things you say when engaged in conversations, because not everyone thinks the same.
Some people flirt because they get a thrill of being desired by someone else, while others flirt just for the fun of it. Therefore, the question arising out of this is…“Is flirting wrong?”
