Get financially fit in ECCB’s Fitness Walk-A-Thon 2010

By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EVERYTHING is in place for tomorrow’s (Apr. 24) staging of Financial Fitness Walk-A-Thon 2010 and the public is asked to come out and join the five-mile fun walk, spreading the message of financial fitness.

The event, organised through the collaborative effort between the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) and its partnering financial institutions, is expected to attract crowds of business professionals, community and social groups and members of the community to a walk throughout the Basseterre area. Registration is free and all are invited to walk their way to financial fitness.

ECCB Corporate Relations Officer LaFleur Dublin told SKNVibes that she anticipates a large turnout as the theme of the walk, ‘Spend wisely, Save regularly’, is very timely.

She noted that the message put out by the central bank and financial institutions is in keeping with the education programme of making wise financial choices.

“We expect a lot of people to come out in support of the theme. We are tying this physical fitness with financial fitness and we are sending a message to the public to spend wisely and save wisely. Given the circumstances where people may not be able to meet their bill payments because of monetary restraints, it is important that everyone aim for financial fitness. We are saying that financial fitness starts with them,” She said.

The walk begins at the Circus at 5:30 a.m. and will go along the Bay Front, passing the cenotaph up to Wigley Avenue. From there, participants will walk toward the new round-a-bout at the West end of Basseterre High Way, into Shadwell and exit through Greenlands and unto Cayon Street. The route continues along Pond Road to the Craft House and will return to the Circus along the Bay Road.

Music will put pep in the step of all the participants and fruits, water and Gatorade will be provided for the walk. A prize will be given to the individual in the most creative outfit reflecting the theme.

According to Dublin, at the end of the event, persons should walk away with an excitement to ‘Spend wisely and Save regularly’ in order to attain financial fitness.
