BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A male resident of Lower Monkey Hill, St. Peters was taken into custody last night (Apr. 22) to assist police in their investigations into the find of a pistol, ammunition and a quantity of cannabis sativa.
According to a police press release, at about 9:30 last night, members of the Criminal Investigation Department, Anti-Gang Unit and the Defence Force executed a search warrant on a home in Monkey Hill and one Mac 10 Automatic Pistol, 17 rounds of matching ammunition and a quantity of cannabis sativa were found.
A male individual, who was in the house at the time, was taken into police custody along with the pistol, ammunition and drugs.
Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Joseph Liburd told SKNVibes that this is the 12th firearm to have been taken off the streets of the Federation for the year and 107 since 2006. He also noted that investigations into this recent find are ongoing.
On Sunday (Apr. 11), a series of operations were launched in the Basseterre are by the Anti-Gang Unit. A number of homes and abandoned buildings were searched, and at approximately 11:00 a.m. police found a 12-gauge shotgun and three cartridges in an abandoned building in Irish Town.
Later that day, they found a 1.38 Pistol with nine rounds of ammunition and a quantity of cocaine and crack hidden in the backyard of an elderly couple in the Newtown area.
