UK sports club receives special SKN gift

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE United Kingdom-based Dunnington-Caribbean Sports Club completed its time in the Federation this week with a special gift of sports bags donated by the Wilful Skilful Sports Club.

The delegation visiting St. Kitts-Nevis was comprised of roughly 130 persons and they engaged the locally-based Wilful Skilful Sports Club in both a cricket and football match during their stay. At the end of these competitions, each member of the Dunnington-Caribbean club received a sports bag donated by Farrell’s Canvas.

SKNVibes spoke to Wilful Skilful member Don ‘Dango’ Farrell, who explained that the gift donation was a sign of hospitality toward the regularly visiting club.

“We were able to host them for the whole day as we had planned after getting the invitation and we decided to get them a little gift.”

He added that it meant a lot to the Wilful Skilful Sports Club to be ambassadors for the nation during their time as hosts.

“It means a whole lot to us, especially as the country is now getting into sports tourism. It is always a pleasure when visitors come for so long on our shores and we are able to make them feel welcome by treating them in a little sporting activity,” Farrell said.

The matches between the clubs were drawn at one apiece, with Wilful Skilful taking the cricket competition and Dunnington-Caribbean winning the football match.

With such an even match between the squads, Farrell said that both sides greatly enjoyed the test and would be looking to improve by next year.

“It really was a great treat for all of us. I think everybody had fun on that day…. We look forward to hosting them any time they are back in St. Kitts and we are also looking forward to planning a tour to England, probably by next year,” Farrell said.

Special thanks was paid to the Dunnington-Caribbean Club and their staff, Farrell’s Canvas, St. Kitts-Nevis Breweries and the general public for ensuring that the visit of the UK squad was successful.
