BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force reported that it has successfully removed another firearm off the Federation’s streets.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Joseph Liburd, yesterday morning (Apr. 26) police found a revolver and ammunition in Basseterre.

“The public continues to work closely with the police. This improved relationship has again yielded success in the form of the removal of one .38 Revolver and four rounds of matching ammunition from the streets of the Federation.”

He said the items were “found in an abandoned house in the Basseterre area at about 8:15 a.m.”

This firearm, according to Liburd, is the 13th to have been removed from the Federation’s streets since the commencement of the year. The 12th was removed four days prior.

As explained in a police press release, “On Thursday 22nd April, 2010, members of the Anti-Gang, CID and Defence Force executed a search warrant on a home at Lower Monkey Hill at approximately 9:30 p.m. and a quantity of cannabis, one Mac 10 semi-automatic pistol with 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition were found and taken into police custody. One person is in custody assisting the police with their investigations. Investigations are ongoing.”

ACP Liburd informs that, just as the most recent gun find, the others remain under investigation.
