Another United States carrier is to begin flying into St. Kitts’ Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport by June.

The Miami Herald newspaper is reporting that Pan Am will return to South Florida with scheduled service from Fort Lauderdale to St. Kitts and three other Caribbean islands beginning on May 27th.

According to PANAM’s website, the airline has flights departing Sundays and Wednesdays at 8:30 A.M. arriving at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport at 11:15 A.M..

Pan Am, which was bought out of bankruptcy by Timothy Mellon in 1998, already offers charter flights from Fort Lauderdale’s Hollywood International Airport to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.

Pan Am's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Dan Fortnam told the Miami Herald those flights will be expanded to include either charter or scheduled service to Port-of-Spain, Trinidad; St. Kitts; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.

He said the Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based low-cost airline is not yet ready to disclose more details.

Privately-owned Pan Am, the third rendition of the airline with the storied name, was reorganised in June 1998 by the owners of Guilford Transportation Industries, majority owned by Mellon, a scion of one of America's wealthiest families.

Since then, the airline has focused on serving small, low-cost airports near major metropolitan areas in the United States.

Pan Am operates a fleet of seven Boeing 727s and flies to 12 destinations on the East Coast and the Caribbean, said Pan Am President, Dave Fink. The airline operates a hub in Orlando/Sanford and will begin flying to two additional cities on March 29.

Fink said Pan Am will put another 15 Boeing 727s it purchased from United into service beginning in about two months.

Pan Am also plans to launch a Santo Domingo-based affiliate carrier called Pan American World Airways, which would fly within the Caribbean.
