BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (SKNIS May 16, 2006):  A new radio programme that focuses on issues of socio-economic development is about to hit the airwaves of St. Kitts and Nevis.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) has disclosed the introduction of "Island Issues" that will feature discussion on significant events and development matters that impact the lives of citizens and residents of the country. The radio programme will have a variety of guests from the Public and Private Sectors and would include an interactive segment where the radio audience can call into the programme with comments and questions on the subject matter being discussed.

When asked how different the programme will be compared to popular call-in radio shows, the Director of Communications at SKNIS and programme host Mr. Mahlon Goma said, "The programme is designed to present factual information from authoritative sources during on-air discussion. It is also designed to reduce the prevalence of speculation, while giving the audience an opportunity to call in and discuss issues in a productive manner. This kind of information sharing and dialogue would be helpful in creating an informed populace."

The programme is being produced in collaboration with ZIZ Radio and will be aired initially every Tuesday at 11 a.m., with rebroadcast slots throughout the week. SKNIS invites the general public to tune in for the first programme on ZIZ Radio on Tuesday 23rd May.
