Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 16, 2006: The St. Kitts and Nevis UNESCO Small Islands Voice (SIV) was congratulated for being one of the more active initiatives in the region.
This information was relayed by UNESCO National Commission Secretary General Mr. Antonio Maynard who had sojourned in Paris from April 1 to 13, chiefly to attend a UNESCO Executive Board meeting.
Mr. Maynard who is also the local Coordinator for SIV explained that the local committee was given this commendation during a meeting of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) which also took place in Paris on April 6.
He said that at the SIDS meeting he had been given the opportunity to make a presentation on the activities of SIV in St. Kitts and Nevis. St. Kitts and Nevis was also represented at the UNESCO Executive Board meeting by Ms. Mutryce Williams, the business and marketing specialist at the SSMC Transition Management Office and the local UNESCO Youth PATH Coordinator.
Mr. Maynard officially documented the commendation of the St. Kitts and Nevis at the monthly SIV meeting which was held April 26, 2006.
Other items discussed also included the trip of the SIV Back Chat group to Montserrat where it was noted that a financial report had been presented to the committee but the formal report was still being prepared by the students. It was said that cards of appreciation had been presented to all individuals and organisations that assisted with the trip.
SIV Members were also updated on the presentation of articles to the local newspapers, the first being written by Novelette Morton-Hanley. It was also noted that the SIV Display Board had been presented at the Caribbean Health Research Council Meetings and at the Agriculture Open Day.
