Convictions recorded at Traffic Court

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A number of persons were fined Thursday (May 20) for failing to adhere to the Federation traffic laws.

     

    The individuals stood before presiding magistrate, Her Worship Karen Hill-Hector at the District “A” Magistrate Court located in the Sir Lee Llewellyn Moore Judicial and Legal Complex.

     

    Kheneraj Rampersaud of Stapleton Estate was convicted of “driving without insurance” and “driving without a driver’s license” and was fined $500 on each count. The sums are to be paid within one week or, in default, serve 14 days at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    A related charge was preferred against Maurang Budhram, also of Stapleton Estate. He was found guilty of “permitting another to operate a vehicle when that person is not covered with insurance”. Her Worship Hill-Hector ordered Budhram to pay $500 within one week or serve 14 days in prison.

     

    Trafalgar Village resident Javid Wilkinson was convicted of “driving without a driver’s license” and “driving when not covered by insurance”. Within one week, he has to pay a total of $600 and, if he fails to do so, a 14-day custodial sentence would be imposed. The offence was committed on May 3, 2010.

     

    A $1 200 fine was imposed on Lower Monkey Hill resident Jamari Williams, which has to paid within one week. He was convicted of May 19, 2010 offences of “driving without a driver’s license”, “driving when not covered by insurance” and “taking vehicle without consent of the owner”. Williams faces a 14-day custodial sentence should he fail to pay the fine within the prescribed time.
