B.V.I. Wednesday, June 30 (GIS Press Release) - Governor Pearey departed the Territory on Saturday, June 26 and is expected to return on Saturday, July 10. – His Excellency the Governor Mr. David Pearey is currently out of the Territory.

Mrs. V. Inez Archibald, Deputy Governor, will serve as Governor’s Deputy from June 26 to July 3 and as Acting Governor from July 3 to 10 during his absence.

Mrs. Archibald’s appointments are pursuant to section 39(1) and 37 of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007.

According to section 39(1), “Whenever the Governor has occasion to be absent from the seat of Government but not from the Virgin Islands; the Governor may, acting in his discretion, by instrument under the public seal, appoint the Deputy Governor to be his deputy during such absence and in that capacity to perform on his behalf such of the functions of the office of Governor as may be specified in that instrument.”

Section 37 states, “During any period when the Governor is absent from the Virgin Islands, the Deputy Governor or any other person designated by Her Majesty shall act in the office of Governor and perform the duties accordingly."
