Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 19, 2004): After a series of intense discussions, the Child Month Celebration Steering Committee of the Early Childhood Development Unit has finalized a schedule of activities to Mark the 20th celebration of Child Month.

The T- Shirt colour and design, songs for the month, innovations as well as the theme for the month have all been decided.

The chosen theme is, “Joining hands and hearts on behalf of Children.”

The committee has decided on several innovations given the fact that this celebration is considered a significant milestone. Early Childhood coordinator Mrs Vanta Walters revealed that replacing the annual concert would be the “Tiny Tots Dance Explosion.”

Zone sports will now be held in the month of May to culminate in a massive sports day for all preschools during Childmonth in June. An eagerly awaited feature the “Costume Show” will be a flashback of the themes of the 20 years and will be performed to the song for each respective year.

Special activities have been planned in which “daycare dads” will be competing zone-wise.

Also on the schedule are a corporate church service held specifically for preschoolers as well as a family fun fair.

When questioned about the parade, Mrs Walters explained that the general public would just have to wait and see. The coordinator was willing only to say that in more ways than one, it would be unlike any other.

The month long celebration will culminate in an awards ceremony that will honour those persons who have worked in early childhood for 10 to 20 years and over.
