BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE knowledge, skills and ability of security screeners at the airports in St. Kitts and Nevis will soon be enhanced by an Aviation Security Course scheduled to commence from Monday (Jan. 10) at the RLB International Airport Conference Room.

According to the Federation’s Organisation of American States (OAS) Representative, Starret Greene, the course, entitled ‘Excellence in Screening Techniques’, would focus on enhancing the skills of security screeners as the first line of defence in international aviation.

“Based on the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Security Manual Volume 1V and Annex 17, this interactive course will help aviation security screening officers to build upon their skills and knowledge of screening techniques for passengers and baggage. The course will review known techniques and it will offer updated procedures to better address the evolving threats to aviation security.”

Greene also said the course would review known techniques, offering updated procedures to better address the evolving threats to aviation security.

“The course will allow participants to explore their existing procedures and build their skills to focus on emerging threats, using physical searches and checkpoint technology,” he added.

He noted that the course would be administered by instructors from the US Transportation Security Administration (USTSA) and lectures would begin at 8:30 a.m.

Greene also informed that the security course was initiated by the OAS through its Inter American Committee against Terrorism, the USTSA and the government of St. Kitts and Nevis through its Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, and the Ministry of National Security, Immigration and Labour.

He further informed that his organisation would continue to work in close partnership with the USTSA and the Federal government to strengthen aviation security practices and procedures in St. Kitts and Nevis.

The OAS is the oldest regional body in the world and, among other things, it promotes peace and security among its 34-member States in the Hemisphere.
