BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KONRIS MAYNARD continues to prove he is an unstoppable force as the king learnt last night (Jan.11) that he would be competing in the International Soca Monarch Competition scheduled for Trinidad.

According to Chairman of the National Carnival Committee Clement O’Garro, it is customary for organisers from Trinidad’s International Soca Monarch Show to be invited to various countries Soca Monarch Competitions.

“We were unable to invite them to the Sugar Mas Soca Monarch Show held on December 18; therefore, what we did was sent them two videos - one of King Konris’ performances, who won the show, and the other of the First Runner-up, X-man out of Nevis,” he added.

O’Garro said in response to the videos, the organisers said they were satisfied with what they saw of King Konris and he was qualified to go through to the Semi-Finals, which takes place on March 4, and he would not have to go through the elimination stage.

He said the Soca Competition is normally divided into two competitions - the Power Soca Monarch Competition, which Konris would be entering, and the Groovy Soca Monarch Competition in which they hope for X-man to compete, but for whom they are still waiting word from the organisers.

SKNVibes PEP spoke briefly with King Konris who said, “This is great news! I am glad we were able to match what they were looking for and I am really excited about getting this news.”

The Soca Monarch winner said this is also good news for St. Kitts and Nevis and the event could be used as another avenue in putting the Federation on the map.

He said although it would be very tough making it to the Finals, it would be a monumental achievement and he would definitely do his best.

This will be the first time anyone from the Federation competing in that competition.

The show will also feature other countries from the Leeward and Windward Islands and is part of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival celebrations.

JW and Blaze currently hold the Power Soca Monarch title while Shurwayne Winchester is the defender of the Groovy Soca Monarch title.
