North Sound, Antigua, January 14 2011 – Hampshire won. But it was no normal win. It was as incredible as incredible is.

With the scores tied after the regulation 20 overs Barbados and Hampshire had to engage in a One Over Eliminator to decide a winner of their second round Caribbean Twenty20 clash. And it was a most unique over.

Barbados took first strike and lost two of their allotted three batsmen – Dwayne Smith and Carlo Morris – from three deliveries bowled by a fiery Simon Jones to end their one over innings for no run. Hampshire then needed one run from 6 balls to win.

Sulieman Benn then bowled Sean Ervine first ball as the batsman ill-advisedly attempted a reverse sweep. The next two balls went for no run and it looked like another tie was in the making but then the fourth ball was pushed into the off side for a single and Hampshire won the match in a most incredulous manner.

Hampshire had made 136 for 3 from 20 overs with 39 from Jimmy Adams (47 balls, 3x4, 1x6), a run a ball 37 from the other opener Johannes Myburgh and an unbeaten quickfire 32 from 19 balls by Zimbabwean strokemaker Sean Ervine who clattered a pair of sixes and another pair of fours.

Dwayne Smith returned to form with 50 off 37 (2x4, 4x6) as he headed the Barbadian run chase but with 9 runs needed to win from the last over Ashley Nurse smacked a first ball six off Jones. Then got a single and a leg bye but with one run needed to win the final ball was hit to backward point by Tino Best where Myburgh took a stupendous catch.

Star of the Match Jones who bowled with the pace of old finished with 4 for 10 to add to his two wickets in the Super Over. Hamza Riazuddin took 2 for 17 from his four overs.
