Kactus Entertainment to donate part proceeds of Rock Concert to Children’s Home

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A local businessman and promoter has promised to assist a number of institutions in the Federation and plans to start his commitment with the St. Christopher Children’s Home.

     

    Owner of Kactus Entertainment Romeo Parris made a commitment yesterday (Jan. 14) to donate 15 percent of the proceeds from a rock concert to the St. Christopher Children’s Home.

     

    This welcomed gestured was praised by Chairperson of the Board of Directors Dessi Henry and Administrator of the St. Christopher Children’s Home Eartha Williams at a press conference held at the Children’s Home in Fortlands, Basseterre.

     

    Assistant Manager of Kactus Entertainment Winnielle Pereira told the gathering that the company would be hosting a rock concert dubbed ‘Escape Plan’ and it would be staged at Carnival City on Saturday, January 22, starting at 8:00 p.m.

     

    Pereira stated that a number of local artistes and bands would be performing at the concert and it would be headlined by The Apollo Effect, a Canadian rock band popularly known for its sound track played in the movie, ‘Resident Evil’.

     

    Parris said the gesture forms part of his company’s efforts in giving back to the community in various ways.

     

    “We plan to look at various institutions like the blind society, the disabled association and a number of other persons who seek help. We intend to lend a helping hand in ensuring that they can be assisted in whatever way possible,” Parris said.

     

    Parris said he learned that a former employee of the JNF General Hospital is in need of a wheelchair and he is going to provide that individual with one.

     

    Henry, who has been on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Home for the past five years, thanked Parris and his company for what she called a worthy gesture, and explained that garnering adequate resources for the home continues to be very challenging.

     

    “I thank Mr. Parris and his team and would like to appeal to other businesses to lend support in whatever way that they can, as we at the Children’s Home are in need of the financial support.”

     

    She described 2010 as a very good year, noting that they were able to achieve set goals.

     

    “We intend to make this year better and one of our main goals is to ensure that the children that we have here receive the best nurturing that any mother would like to have for her children. As you can see, we are all mothers as we want to ensure that these children get the motherly love and support that they need,” Henry added.

     

    Administrator Williams declared that the promised funds from the concert are much needed and would be properly spent in enhancing the lives of the children within the home.

     

    The local acts slated to perform are Nature B, Dagga, CJ, ITYC, Crucial Bankie and King Konris with bands Green House out of Nevis and KC5 making up the list.

     

    Nature B and Dagga were present at the press conference and took timeout to speak to the children, urging them to make the best use of the assistance and support that is being given to them. They also spoke about some of the negative ills within society, pointing out its effects and impact on the lives of youths and community.

     

    In his address to the gathering, Parris highly commended the company's employees, Kieshma Smith, Vanessa Carey and Precious Mills for their roles as Sales and Marketing Manager, Administrator and Press Officer respectively.
