St.Paul’s are the 2010 Masters Parish league champions

Merlin Liburd in strike
By: Curtis Morton, Press Release

CHALRESTOWN Nevis, January 17th 2011 - The Masters Parish league 2010 came to an anticlimactic conclusion on Saturday night—15th January.  The league had spilled over into the new year due to inclement weather conditions in December.

The top two teams in St.Paul’s and St.James’ were on show and much was anticipated from the encounter.

St.James’ won the toss and probably made a fundamental error by inserting St.Paul’s on a perfect batting track and with some two men short at the start of the game.

Merlin Liburd and Donovan Matthews got off to a quickfire start before they were parted and the two West Indies former players in the line up, Stuart Williams and Carl Tuckett later joined in a scintillating partnership, literally matching each other stroke for stroke.

Highlights man of the match for the night Hamilton,  served to effectively get rid of both men while they were in full flow.  First up, he saw Williams charging him and instead of shortening the delivery, he bowled it full and straight into the blockhole, causing Williams to tumble over in his attempt to keep it out, and was run out before he could get back in his crease.  He then followed up by clean bowling the free flowing Carl Tuckett.
However, One hundred and sixty-nine runs were always going to be a challenging total in 20 overs.

Maybe too much depended on Winston Sutton with Wendel Wallace injured. Sutton after one impressive boundary soon went caught off the bowling of a pumped up Livingstone Powell who started superbly for the St.Paul’s team.

Hamilton again starred with the bat also playing a few scintillating shots and Wendell Wallace despite his limited foot movement, swung his bat lustily until he was caught in the offside.

The last two batsmen effectively stalled the process and brought the game to a grinding halt when they survived three consecutive maidens towards the end of the innings, before Gerard ‘Trini’ Charles brought their painful vigil to a close.

Summarized scores:  St.Paul’s One hundred and sixty-nine for five from 20 overs: Staurt Williams forty-nine; Carl Tuckett forty-two; Merlin Liburd 33
Elliot, Sutton and Hamilton 1 wicket each

    St.James’ 107 for 9 (all out) C.Hamilton 32; Wendell Wallace twenty-six
Livingstone Powell 3 wickets; Patrick Newton 2; Staurt Williams 2; Gerard Charles 1

On hand to witness the conclusion of the match was DIGICEL”S Marketing Executive Officer, Ms Marsha Lindo who handed out the prizes at the end of the game.

Chief sponsors Nevis Multi Line were unavailable due to other commitments but ensured that the promised cheques were available for the prize giving ceremony.
