Press Release

North Sound, Antigua, January 17th 2011 – English Twenty20 champs Hampshire Royals registered a thumping 46 run win against the hapless hosts Leeward Islands on Day 6 of the Caribbean Twenty20.

Star of the Match Johann Myburgh plundered 76 runs from 57 balls with six lusty maximums and four boundaries.

Fellow opener and Captain Jimmy Adams added 30 from 24 balls while Ben Howell rammed in 29 from 12 balls at the end of the innings. Justin Athanaze took 3 for 24 from 4 overs.

Leewards – yet to register a win in regional Twenty20 – then folded for 110, never really mounting a serious challenge to the Hampshire total. Anguillan wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton top scored with 32 while Nevisian opener Kieran Powell made 29 as only Rakheem Cornwall (13) and Devon Thomas (17) were the others to secure double figure scores.

Simon Jones, the former England pacer, picked up 3 for 21 from four overs. Danny Briggs (2 for 20), Chris Wood (2 for 9) and Hamza Riazuddin (2 for 23) combined to crush the Leewards batting effort which ended with one ball remaining in their allotted 20 overs.
