The Apollo Effect to rock St. Kitts this Saturday

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 19th 2011 – PARTYGOERS are in for a treat Saturday (Jan. 22) as the first ever Rock/Pop concert to grace the shores of the Federation will be held at Carnival Village from 8:00 p.m.

The concert is dubbed ‘Escape Plan’ and will be featuring The Apollo Effect.

Escape Plan, which is also the name given to The Apollo Effect’s latest album, is organised by Kactus Entertainment and a Canadian-based promotion and management company called Selective Image.

The rock band was formed in 2005 in Canada and consists of three members - Shawn Van de Sande, Brent Lunney and Jason Harvey.

Known for tracks like ‘The Honeymoon is Over’, ‘Me Against The World’ and ‘Trapped In Elevators’, their songs have been prominently featured on TV, advertisements and movie trailers for networks including MTV, ESPN, HBO and The Movie Network. The band also appeared in such shows as Resident Evil, Extinction, The Kardashians, Real World Challenge and the recent Degrassi.

The group recently posted a blog on its website about performing in St. Kitts and its members said, “We can't think of a better way to kick off the New Year than headlining a rock show on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts. On January 21 we'll be boarding a plane from the chilled and frosted air of Toronto and landing in the T-shirt and flip flop weather of St. Kitts.”

According to Romeo Parris of Kactus Entertainment, one of the main reasons for hosting the concert is the hope of boosting the tourism product by appealing and providing music for students and tourists.

He said by teaming up with Selective Image creates a new great opportunity for national rising starts by providing them with a new channel for their music to be nationalised.

Parris said he wants to assure the patrons, which he hopes would include students and tourists, that the enironment would be a safe one as there would be 25 uniform security personnel on the ground.

“We would only be using one gate for security reasons and we would be using the Basseterre High School grounds for parking, which would be well lit and controlled by the Traffic Department,” he stressed.

The concert will also see top national artistes in the likes of C-Jay, Crucial Bankie, Dagah, Nicha B, I.T.Y.C, King Konris and Rolhensha alongside the KC5 Band, the Green House Band from Nevis, DJ Flames and TNO Sounds.

After the concert, all roads lead to Club Kactus for the after party with DJ Shaggy, TNO Sounds, DJ Yardy and the Nu Vybes Band.

In response to Kactus Entertainments future plans, Parris said he is currently working on a Jazz concert for Valentines Day.
