Early tips for Valentine’s Day

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FEBRUARY 14 has been designated Valentine’s Day and is being celebrated in most countries in the world. Traditionally, it is a day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending cards, offering assorted confectionaries and presenting flowers, among other tangibles and gestures.

This day creates high expectations and excitement for many. It also causes many lovers to ponder over the type or form of gift that is appropriate for the one they love, as well as the cost of it.

From this backdrop, SKNVibes has decided to share some tips that may be useful on making Valentine’s Day special and also cost effective.

    Shop around
Each year, many restaurants in the Federation advertise a special menu for Valentine’s Day. You can use that as the opportunity to do some early comparisons or even contact the restaurants and find out which one has the best price to suit your pocket. It is Valentine’s Day and you want it be extraordinary but, at the same time, still not out of your price range.

    Do it yourself
We all know that January and February can be some trying months financially and has gotten worse for some individuals due to the economic crisis. Therefore, a home-cooked dinner is not a bad idea. Prepare a special dinner for you and your lover and eat in the comfort of your home while using candles, soft music and champagne to set the mood. You may even find a nice secluded, but safe spot, take a blanket and have dinner under the stars.

    Be creative
If there is an individual for whom you would like to present something and you know the things that they like, make your own basket and give it to them. There is no use in buying a gift basket filled with stuff the person may never use or want.

    Make use of technology
In almost every household there is a computer, so make use of it. Construct a few lines in a sentence or two telling that special person how much you care or love them. Create a card with those sentences and a picture of yourself affixed on the front or the inside and send it to that special someone. Sometimes, for many people it is the simple things that count, and just knowing that they were thought of brings them a bundle of joy.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day is not a must and some people view it as any ordinary day. But there is still nothing wrong in showing some extra love on that day and putting a smile on the face of your wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend.
