Jam session and carnival prize giving this Saturday

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 26th 2011  – THE prize giving ceremony for the St. Kitts/Nevis National Carnival dubbed Sugar Mas will take place this Saturday (Jan. 29) commencing at 6:30 on Bank Street.

     


    According to the carnival committee’s Chairman Clement Ogarro Cash and other prizes would be awarded to successful Sugar Mas’ participants while winning performances would also be staged.

     


    A jam session is also schedule to take place before the ceremony from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with the Small-Axe Band who was named the sweetest band on the road during the carnival celebrations.

     


    Seven individuals were declared winners in seven separate carnival organised shows, they were Queen Anastasia who was crowned Female Calyspso Bacchanal Queen, King Lala who took the Best of the Rest crown both on December 17, 2010. On December 18, Konris Maynard was crowned Soca Monarch, while on December 27, Siobhan Phipps of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School took the Talented Teen title and Calypso Leo took the Junior Calypso King title on the same night. Iantavian Queeley was declared the new National Carnival Queen and Pungwa walked away as LIME Senior Calypso Monarch on December 29.

     


    The other show that was held was the Miss Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant which is organised by the Haynes Smith Committee saw Nandy Noel, who represented Grenada, taking home the crown.

     


    Meanwhile in the street activities King Konris took the Road March title, the troupe of the year went to Inferno with ‘Ship Ahoy’ and Mudsunami took Best J’Ouvert troupe.

     


    The St. Kitts/Nevis National Carnival was held from December 17, 2010 to January 3, 2011.
