BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, January 26, 2011 (SKNIS) - Two high profile visits from international partners on Government’s I-Literacy One-to-One Laptop Project will take place over the next few days, signaling the impending implementation of the initiative.
SKNIS has been informed that Pradeep Raman, the General Manager at Microsoft Trinidad and Tobago, will visit the island on Friday, January 28, to formally announce their investment in the project. This contribution, allows full access to Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 7 Professional, as well as its popular Office 2010 which includes programmes such as Word, Publisher and Excel.
While here, Mr. Raman will meet with the Minister of Technology Honourable Glenn Phillip and the Minister of Education Honourable Nigel Carty to express his company’s sentiments on the newly formed relationship that will significantly lower the cost of the laptop initiative.
A press conference is slated for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, so as to give the public an opportunity - via the media - to hear directly from the visiting official and receive updates from members of the project taskforce.
The second visit comes on Monday, January 31, when Hewlett-Packard’s Caribbean Territory Manager Ted Serrano is slated to meet with Government officials. HP, as the company is widely known, is responsible for manufacturing the tablet model chosen for the I-Literacy One-to-One Laptop Project.
Mr. Serrano is expected to update the timeline for the devices, which has been delayed due to a global shortage of the necessary components required to produce the touch-screen feature.
At a town hall meeting last night (Tuesday), Minister Phillip stressed that Government has lived up to all of its obligation and is anxiously awaiting the delivery of the laptops from HP.
