Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Administration will table a White Paper in the National Assembly on Tuesday outlining the framework and structure for reforming the electoral system.

Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is expected to outline the process by which electoral reform will be achieved, the proposed reforms that Government will pursue and the preferred steps through wide consultation with all stakeholders.

Government is of the view that at the end of the process it would have formulated and instituted a legally reformed electoral system following proper consultation with all social groups, political parties, and the general public thereby guaranteeing that future elections in St. Kitts and Nevis continue to be free and fair and free from fear.

Prime Minister Douglas is on record as saying that in keeping with the democratic and constitutional rights, the reforms will not disenfranchise any voter in the quest to introduce a modern and efficient electoral system.

An earlier resolution passed by the National Assembly calls for the establishment of several parliamentary and non-parliamentary committees with specific tasks aimed at facilitating a comprehensive national consultation with all stakeholders leading to the implementation of a new electoral framework.
