JLP Athletes sound strong warning

Patron - Marvin Chapman
By: Curtis Morton, Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, March 11th 2011 - Inter Primary champs the Joycelyn Liburd Primary School sounded a strong note of warning to all and sundry with some excellent performances by their top athletes yesterday at their annual sports meet.

By the end of the work day, the St.George’s Recreation Grounds was bursting at its seams with the huge crowd that showed up to witness the event.

A number of records were  broken and there were a few really close finishes, indicative of the high intensity training sessions that the athletes have been a part of over the last several weeks.

The meet which was scheduled to commence at 12.30 pm actually got on the way at approximately 12.31 pm due to the no nonsense approach adopted by Headmistress Marion Lescott, over the years..  The Patron of the day was Mr. Marvin Chapman, a former athlete and a gentleman who has assisted in the preparation of the JLP team in a real way.

Early in the proceedings, the JLP fans were greeted with the news that one of the school’s top athletes Tajari Arthurton was suffering from a toe injury and was thus unable to fully participate In the meet.  It was however revealed that the young  sprinter would be fit for the grand Inter Primary event on the 6th of April.

He however bravely entered the 4 X100 meters relay to engage the speedy Jovani Somersall and one of the obvious stars of the day, on the home stretch of the event.  A pumped up Jovani managed to squeeze home first.

Some of the other outstanding athletes on the day included sisters Jevysa and Jeneasa Dore; Gievorn Arthurton and Anika Ferguson.

The general consensus of opinion at the end of the day was that if the JLP team performs to its full potential, the other schools will have their hands full come the 6th of April.

Blue house as indicated in the King Konris remix which was blazed all day proved an unstoppable force as they raced away as victors with 447 points.

Red placed second with 378 and Green brought up third place with 344 points.
