ROAD TOWN, Tortola, BVI, 9th March 2011 -  This is one of the challenges the Labour Department faces when female employees come forward to make reports on alleged sexual advances and verbal abuse, Oleavine Maynard, Labour Commissioner told VINO in an invited comment.

“It is very difficult to find out the truth because what we have found out is that we find the person was in a relationship and when it goes sour they are singing a different tune,” Mrs. Maynard pointed out.

Surprisingly, the figures are relatively low when it comes to such complaints in the Virgin Islands.

But according to Mrs. Maynard the complaints are investigated thoroughly.

Recently VINO received a call from a female employee who had indicated that her boss was harassing her. She disclosed that she was scared that she would lose her job, but eventually went into Labour Department to discuss her situation.

Mrs. Maynard did acknowledge being aware of the situation, but was tight-lipped about the end result.
