Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, March 11th 2011 - Nevisian all rounder Adelvin Phillip is high in praise for the work ethics learnt during his stint at the ICC Americas High Performance camp. Apart from the theoretical material passed on by the Coaches, Phillip was impressed with the batting, bowling and fielding drills. He noted that a towel was strategically placed on the pitch and the bowlers were asked to pitch the ball on the towel.

For the batting, cones were placed at certain points of the field and the batsmen were required to pick specific gaps in order to score.  He was however most impressed with the fielding drills and indicated that he learnt quite a lot.

He is now committed to sharing what he learnt with his Nevisian teammates and with the youngsters that he coaches as a part of his professional duties.

The camp culminated with a match between the High Performance Camp team and a St.Kitts-Nevis X.  Phillip who elected to play with the St.Kitts –Nevis team, was one of the key players in the match.  The St.Kitts- Nevis team batted first and scored 223 in 45 overs.  Diewan Phillip played a superb hand for 45 which included a towering six which went in the general direction of the Basseterre Jail. Akeem Saunders made a cultured 38 and Adelvin Phillip scored a measured 29.

When the High Performance team batted they fell 15 runs short of the target –bowled out for 208.

Phillip opened the bowling and later bowled superbly at the death to end with figures of 3 for 25.

The Camp included two players each from Argentina, Suriname, Canada, the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda and St.Kitts-Nevis.

Phillip is hoping that more players from Nevis will soon be exposed to that kind of intensive training.
