BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A skull, suspected to be that of a human, was found in the mountainous area of Stone Fort on Saturday, March 19, 2011.

Information reaching SKNVibes stated that a group of hikers had found the skull and reported the matter to officers at the Old Road Police Station on the same day of the find.

When contacted this morning (Mar. 22), Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson confirmed the find and noted that police are investigating.

“Police from the Old Road Police Station received a report that a skull, suspected to be that of a human, was found in the Stone Fort Mountain area close to the Bat Cave by some hikers. The find took place around 12 mid-day on March 19, 2011.

“Police from the Old Road Police Station visited the area and did the necessary processing. The skull was packaged in an evidence bag and taken into police custody, pending expert examination,” Henderson said.

He also informed that, at this stage, the police have not been able to ascertain the identity or origin of the skull but investigations are ongoing.

When asked if the skull was decomposed and if hair was found at the scene, Henderson insinuated that those were privileged information.

Since 2007, four persons were reported missing and to date have not been found.

Fifty-five-year-old Marcel Berry of Newton Ground was reported missing on Monday, September 24, 2007.

According to his son, Dale Bryan, Berry would normally leave his home around 5:30 a.m. to tend his farm in Fahie’s Mountain and return at approximately 9:30 a.m., but on that day he did not return.

A police communiqué reported that Dave Sylvester Gordon (40) of Shaw Avenue, McKnight was last seen by family members on Thursday, January 7, 2010. He had reportedly journeyed to the Franklands Mountain area, where he was cultivating a plot of land.

Police also received a report that 23-year-old Andrew ‘Spinal’ Samuel of Conaree Village was last seen by family members in Ottley's Village on Thursday, June 25, 2009, while Trevor Herbert of Cayon Village went missing on September 16, 2010.
