Children’s Dance Theatre set to JUST DANCE

CDT Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, March 23rd 2011 - Plans for the 21st anniversary dance recital of the Children Dance Theatre (CDT) have moved one step closer to completion with the grand announcement of the theme for this year’s special celebration JUST DANCE.  On Sunday April 10th, the current sixty (60) dancers and a cast of former dancers hope to spark greater enthusiasm for dance as well as ignite the importance of this art form as a means of creativity, positive self expression, fun and fitness.

JUST DANCE will showcase the dynamic work of a cadre of experienced and up and coming dance choreographers, namely Julie Martin, Heidi Slack, Sonji Isaac, Shanda Labega, Krystal Glasford and Xia Claxton.  Original and meaningful pieces are promised that will not only highlight the various dance styles taught at the Theatre but will celebrate the influences, beauty and power of dance on our lives.

“It has been a tremendously rewarding experience”, stated Director Julie Martin when asked about her years at the helm of a children’s dance group. “There is nothing more gratifying than to see the way in which dance has been providing a performance platform for so many youngsters to showcase their diverse talents while helping them to become productive members of society.”  She also revealed the names of some of the local corporate houses who have offered firm support for the special dance presentation.  They are Premier Planners, Ting, Giant Malt and Ginseng Up.  Brand Managers at Carib Brewery, Kenrick Isaac and Steve Laplace congratulated CDT for achieving such a significant milestone and both shared the view that the valuable partnership established can only redound to the benefit of the nation’s youth.

CDT was founded in 1989. Its main aims are to further the art of dance amongst the youths and to provide them with performance opportunities and life lessons. There are three divisions Sparks, Starlights and Rockets, receiving dance lessons in jazz, afro-caribbean, swing, modern and  ballet / lyrical.
