ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, CMC, April 6th 2011  – Bullish following his side’s strong showing in the World Cup, Shahid Afridi has sent a strong and early warning to West Indies that Pakistan will be seeking to bury past demons on their tour of the Caribbean, starting later this month.

The Pakistan limited-overs captain said on Sunday that the Pakistanis would be going all out to stamp their authority on the series, which features two Tests, five One-day Internationals, and a Twenty20 International between April 21 and May 24.

“It would be result-oriented,” he said. “Our team is in good spirit and high morale.

“The new youngsters should be given a chance to prove their worth in the forthcoming tour.”

He added: “Cricket experts, lovers, supporters, and family are expecting me to lead the team in the next trip.

“The expectations of Pakistani people are too high for the national team though, but I believe the new talented youngsters could help bring better results for the country in the future.”

Pakistan knocked West Indies out of the World Cup, with a one-sided, 10-wicket victory in the first quarter-final staged at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Bangladesh capital of Dhaka.

The Pakistanis have never won a Test series in the Caribbean, but they won their first bilateral ODI series in the region six years ago, a 5-0 clean sweep by Inzamam-ul-Haq’s side over Brian Lara’s men.

Quite remarkably, the two sides have never played each other in a T20I.
