Anguilla, BVI, Barbados send representatives to Sir Clement’s State Funeral, Venezuela, Cuba and St. Lucia express sympathy

    BASSETERRE St. Kitts, April 6th 2011 (CUOPM) – Several Caribbean nations have been expressing sympathy on the recent passing of the Federation’s First Governor General His Excellency Sir Clement Athelston Arrindell, GCMG, GVCO, Q.C., who will be buried Thursday with full military honours following a State Funeral Service at the Wesley Methodist Church.

     

     
    Anguilla’s Chief Minister Hon. Hubert Hughes and British Virgin Islands Deputy Governor Mrs. Vivian Archibald are among representatives from Barbados and the British High Commission coming to attend the State Funeral on Thursday.
     

     

    St. Lucia’s Governor General Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy in a message of sympathy to St. Kitts and Nevis’ Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian said “Sir Clement will always be remembered in the region for his contribution as a Puisne Judge of the West Indies Associated States Supreme Court and for his long service as Governor and first Governor General of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
     

     

    The Government of Antigua and Barbuda also sent its “sincere condolences to the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis and the family of the late Sir Clement.”
     

     

    Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba His Excellency expressed “deepest condolences to the illustrious Government and people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and to the family of the late Sir Clement Athelston Arrindell.”
     

     

    Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela His Excellency Cruz de Jesus Bello also expressed “deepest condolences.”
     

     

    Besides Anguilla’s Chief Minister Hughes and British Virgin Islands Deputy Governor Archibald, Barbados Senator the Hon. Husbands and First Secretary at the British High Commission will be at the State Funeral.

     

     
    The flag-draped casket of Sir Clement will lie in State at Government House at Springfield on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. followed by the State Funeral Service at 3:00 P.M. at the Wesley Methodist Church. Interment is at the Springfield Cemetery.
     

     

    ZIZ Radio and Television will carry a live broadcast of the State Funeral Service.
     

     

    Meanwhile, public servants wishing to attend the State Funeral will be allowed to leave work at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday.
