BASSETERRE St. Kitts, April 12th, 2011 (SKNIS) - When Henrietta Watson awoke on Sunday, April 10, 2011, she was able to thank God for sparing her life for yet another year. The centenarian has now attained the monumental age of 101.
Parliamentary Representative for the Old Road area, Honourable Glen Phillip, went to Mama Henny’s (as she was affectionately called) residence, to wish her well.
“I think that Henrietta’s longevity has to be attributed to love for family and family love for her,” Phillip stated. “As we celebrate this significant milestone, I think Henrietta has been very good to our community, our community would need more Henriettas. I wish Henrietta many, many more productive years.”
Social Assistance Officer Larissa Riley was on hand to speak on behalf of the Ministry of Social and Community Development.
“Miss. Henny we would like to wish you a belated Happy Birthday and pray that God will give you the courage and strength to move on to see a few more years.”
Last year Mama Henny celebrated her 100th birthday in grand style with a Church Service at the Ebenezer Old Road Methodist Church, which was attended by approximately 200 persons. She was then showered with many well wishes at a Luncheon at Sprat Net. The senior’s life was such that those in attendance ranged from various officials to church family. Mama Henny was described as strong and hardworking having toiled on the sugar estate and farmed a plot of estate land. She was also said to be a very private individual who continued to do certain tasks for herself.
