BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE organisers of Sandy Point’s Black San Bang-A-Lang will be taking the festival to higher heights on Sunday night (Apr. 17) with a calypso competition that will see some of the Federation’s finest competing for the Carib King A De San’s crown.
The much-anticipated event will be held at The Alley in Sandy Point, opposite Daniel’s Trading Centre, and is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. sharp.
Black San was organised by a recently-formed group of young people called Sandy Pointers Inspiring Real Improvement Throughout (SPIRIT).
According to SPIRIT’s Public Relations Officer Judy Dupont, the calypsonians who have been shortlisted to compete for the crown are Ayahtollah, I-Soursop, Queen Anastsia, Queen Kibbie, Singing Angie, Blazer, Lala, Unexpected, Quantash, Mighty Zarkie, Mighty Forest, Jack Spanner and Lil Willy.
She however noted that the number of contestants could increase because there are others who had registered for the competition.
Dupont said that each participant would have to perform two songs and they could either be songs they had composed in the past or newly-written tracks.
She also said that on completion of each song, the competitors would immediately see their scores on a big screen after the judges would have deliberated and made their comments.
The winner will receive an undisclosed cash prize, a crown and a one-year title of Carib King A De San.
The festival will continue on Thursday (Apr. 21) with the Silver Lining Gospel Concert scheduled for Cleverly Hill, Sandy Point.
