ROADTOWN Tortola, BVI, April 14th 2011 - Samuel James, 40, a native of Antigua, residing in Huntums Ghut reported to the East End Police Station shortly after the incident took place on Monday. He was immediately taken into police custody.

The condition of the victim, who is the estranged wife of the suspect, has been upgraded from critical to stable after undergoing surgery.

Officers of the East End Police Station, the Criminal Investigation Department and Scene of Crime attended the scene of the incident. Officers of the Family and Juvenile Unit and the Social Development Department followed shortly after to provide support and needed assistance to the children of victim.

Police continue to investigate the matter

Commissioner of Police Reynell Frazer expressed his concern with the severity of injuries to victims of domestic violence within recent times.

“These crimes of passion are committed without thought to the consequences and individuals are sorry later. Persons who are especially prone to violence must decide, well in advance, to walk away whenever they are placed in potentially explosive situations and to further get the help necessary to successfully manage anger,” Frazer stated in the release.
