HOPE Nevis announces its annual Kids Carnival

HOPE Nevis Incorporated Press Release

CHARLESTOWN Nevis, April 14th 2011 - The members of Helping Our People Excel (HOPE) Nevis Incorporated, a five year old charity group has announced that their annual kids carnival annually held in August would be held this year in honour of child month, on April 30th.

The carnival whose premier sponsor is Brown Hill Communications is usually a big hit that is well looked forward to by children already in the celebration mode as the event normally coincides with the Culturama celebrations.

HOPE has partnered with the Social Services Department which is currently hosting a month of activities celebrating kids to stage the carnival on the said date at its usual place, the Villa Grounds in Charlestown. “The partnership between HOPE Nevis and the Social Services Department is a unique, longstanding and beneficial one” said Acting Chairman of HOPE Nevis Incorporated, Lavorn Lawrence. Lawrence also said that “since the United Nations proclaimed this year the year of the youth we thought it would be best to partner with the social services department to make this carnival an even bigger celebration of youths.” Additionally, the group has partnered with the Bank of Nevis Social Club who according to Lawrence wanted to show some solidarity with the group in their rally against crime.

The carnival which is the third of its kind hosted by HOPE Nevis will cater to all age groups and is dubbed a “family event”. Under the theme “Forget Bloods, Crips and Crime, its unison time”, the carnival was first held in August of 2009 as part of the Group’s anti crime program. “The HOPE kids Carnival was initiated due to the rising crime in the community and the group wanted to send a more positive message by organising an activity where all family members and persons can socialize in unity and remember what the island used to be in the past, getting together and having a good time” informed the Acting Chairman Lavorn Lawrence.

Commencing at 11am, the carnival will have a number of activities catering to both children and adults. For the children there will be games like lucky dip, boddy boppers, lollipop three, go carts, face painting the bouncing castles, appearances by Dora the Explorer and company among others.

Meanwhile for the older folks there will be a Mississippi tournament, a bun eating competition and performances by local artistes such as The Kore, “Delison “Xman” Roper” and several others.

While the group usually allows the public to enter the carnival for free, this year there will be a $1 fee per person that will go towards the HOPE Deserving Child Award Fund which normally provides daily hot meals and other necessities to under privileged students.

The kids carnival also sponsored by a number of charity giving businesses is also done to raise funds to facilitate many of the other initiatives of the group which includes but are not limited to the HOPE Young Professionals Seminar, School Adoption Program and the Hope Anti Crime Rallies.
