BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – YOUTHS smoking marijuana and young people being gunned down are just some of the issues Anthony Barzey, popularly known as Lil Barzey, addresses in his latest song ‘Whats Going On’.

The track, which also features Rico Righteous, was released on Thursday (Apr. 14) on Freedom Radio with Sweet Sister Sensia’s ‘Home Grown Thursdays’ show.

Speaking with SKNVibes, Barzey said the recent upsurge of criminal activities in the Federation has caused him to pen the song which simply asks, “What is going on.”

Barzey, like many other local artistes, has recently joined the cry to stop the violence and promote a better Federation for the youths.

He said a music video would follow shortly with hopes of sending an even stronger message to the nation’s youth.

The 22-year-old St. Peters resident said he started out singing calypso and later linked up with Sandy Point songbird C-Money, with whom he performed on several shows. He is also featured on one of his popular tracks titled ‘Hater Blockers’.

Barzey is also known for his hard hitting lyrics on the ‘Mad Up’ riddim with a track called ‘Jah Protect Me’.

Asked about future plans, Lil Barzey said, “The week before Mother’s Day I will be releasing a new song called ‘Mama Thank You’, a song I wrote for my mom.”

He said the song speaks of some of the struggles his mom endured while caring for him as a single parent, and in return he is simple saying thank you from the bottom of his heart.

SKNVibes has included a copy of ‘What’s Going On’ for listening pleasure.
