BRADES, Montserrat (April 20, 2011) - The Training Department of the Royal Montserrat Police Force has launched the second phase of its certified Systematic Search Procedure Course.

Police Constable Kirk Brade, a certified Systematic Search Procedure trainer and Narcotic Drug Detector dog handler is facilitating the course which began on April 18 and runs until April 22. Six officers from various departments are taking the classes which are being held at the Brades police headquarters.

The officers are being taught both practical and theoretical subjects to include, human rights, health and safety, powers of search, group dynamics, rules of evidence, search techniques and areas of concealment.

Sgt Derona Semper, the officer responsible for the training in the RMPF said "the aim of the course is to train officers to effectively plan and execute searches through the management and application of systematic procedures and the use of appropriate detection equipment to locate specified targets."

Semper added that "systematic search procedures significantly enhance the successful location of hidden items.  The objective of the training is to improve the level of efficiency and professionalism of officers in the execution of their daily investigative duties and at the same time allows a return on investment and savings on the department's financial resources."

The first phase of the course was given in September 2010 by PC Brade.
