BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 29TH 2006 ) - Residents of Constituency Six will hear more about the social and economic impact of the US$140 million Kittitian Heights Resorts in St. Kitts' Whitegate area at a public meeting this evening.
St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for the Harris to Newton Ground area, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, has invited the Managing Director of Belmont Resorts Limited, Mr. Val Kempadoo and his associates to meet with the stakeholders from the villages of Newton Ground and St. Paul's at the St. Paul's Community Center on at 7:30 P.M.
Officials from the Ministries of Tourism, Sustainable Development and Agriculture will support Prime Minister Douglas at the meeting, which is expected to be attended by residents, crop and livestock farmers from St. Paul's and Newton Ground. Similar meetings will be held in Dieppe Bay, Parson's and Saddlers/Harris communities at a later date.
Residents and other stakeholders will be brought up to date on the construction phases, the job opportunities that are available at the start of construction and during the building of the villas, condos, golf course and hotel.
Prime Minister Douglas, who has engaged his constituents on the plans of the project over the past years, will also allow the developers to provide first hand information and dialogue with residents on their concerns.
The Kittitian Heights Resort is to be built on 390 acres of land at Belmont Estate in the Whitegate area on the island's northwest, nearly 15 miles from Basseterre and will comprise an Artist Village, Boutique Hotel, Luxury Villas and Town Houses, Recording Studio, Spa, an 18-hole Championship Golf Course designed by Ian Woosnam, a Club House, Practice Academy/Drive Range and Plant Nursery.
~~Adz:Right~~The project will comprise a five-star 160-room hotel, three condo clusters with a total of 440 rooms and 100 luxury villas and will add an additional 1,000 rooms to be built out over five years.
The construction and operational phases will provide 1,000 jobs.
A spokesman for the developers said job application forms will also be available for persons who wish to be employed during the construction phases.
